Hi I’m Anne Warner, and I offer affordable and effective couples therapy in Newport Beach. Let’s have a look together.
Love doesn’t always feel good – this is something every couple comes to know. Sometimes it feels tight in the chest, like something’s stuck. It can feel far away, even in the same room. And when you’re raising kids together, juggling life and time and bills (especially in Southern California!), love can start to sound like a memory instead of a daily practice.
We’re miserable, which is so disappointing!
If you and your partner find yourselves saying things like, “We love each other, but we can’t seem to make this work,” or “We want to stay together, especially for the kids, but we’re both miserable”—you’re not alone. This is a more common place than you might think. Couples therapy can help.
Couples therapy isn’t about taking sides or learning to communicate like a robot. It’s about slowing things down and getting underneath the surface. We will get clear on what you want and how you can express that lovingly and clearly. I employ both a Psychodynamic lens and an Emotionally Focused Therapy roadmap. This means that together we will assume that things are happening under the surface that we may not yet know (for example, “everything was going fine at dinner, and it wasn’t anything he said, I just felt so anxious and didn’t know why!”), and we’ll use time-tested pattern-identifying strategies that will make room and create the kind of space where connection is possible again.
